Hi Stamping Friends!
Today's projects feature a simple version and a stepped-up version of a card design that Shelli Gardner shared at Leadership.
Actually, both cards a pretty simple, but one features a few more details that really give it some personality. Let's take a closer look!
I started with an Island Indigo card base and a 2"x 4-1/2" piece of Tea For Two Designer Series Paper as a fish-tailed banner (don't attach it yet).
Next, I added a Paper Doily at the top. Shelli showed us how to cut the doily to be able to use it on two cards. The Paper Doily is approximately 4" in diameter, so cut 1" off each side, then cut the middle section in half at the 2" mark. Save the outer edges for later.
I stamped directly onto the Paper Doily with the Oh, Hello stamp inked in Early Espresso. TIP: It takes a little bit before the ink absorbs into the doily, so be careful not to smear the ink before it dries completely. Use the Heat Tool on the low temperature setting to speed drying time.
Wrap some Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine around the whole piece, then attach to the card front.
The stepped up version adds some fun details starting with the card base. First I use the Color Spritzer Tool with an Early Espresso Marker to add some dark flecks of color diagonally across the front.
I also used the waterspot stamp from French Folliage to stamp some blotches of Sahara Sand color across the front. Before the ink dried, I poured on some Gold Embossing Powder and heat embossed wherever the powder happened to stick. I wanted this part to look random and I thought it turned out great.
The edge is embossed with the Needlepoint Border Texture Impressions Folder.
I stamped the Oh, Hello on Very Vanilla card stock then die-cut with the Apothecary Accents Framelits. Truth be told, I added this extra stamped layer because I smeared the ink on the doily on this one. Haha!
My absolute favorite part is the pretty Flower Trim embellishment dyed in Tangerine Tango. Isn't it lovely?!! Confession—my new FAVORITE embellishment is the Flower Trim!!!!. I thought it would be all big and bulky, but it's actually very soft and easy to work with. AND you get LOTS of them on the spool that you can use individually. PLUS, they are easy to dye to match your projects perfectly!
Tips For Dyeing The Flower Trim: To die it, I simply laid it upside-down on top of the Firm Foam Ink Pad and dabbed it with a Sponge Dauber. This gives you lots of color on the tips of the rosette. If you want to have a solid color, like the one I've shown here, just mist it with some water using the Stampin' Spritzer Tool. The color will bleed down into the center of the flower for a more uniform look.
Once it's completely dry, I found it best to adhere it with Tombow Multipurpose Glue.
Last, but not least, use that extra piece of Paper Doily to trim your envelope! I added a 5-3/4"x 2" piece of Tea For Two DSP to the envelope flap, trimmed it down, then adhered the doily. Such a sweet detail!Complete Supply List:
